Political advertisers, digital share, 2024
Commercial advertisers, digital share
Research from Tech for Campaigns estimated that political advertisers allocated approximately 36% of media spending to digital in 2024, compared with approximately 78% among commercial advertisers. The difference illustrates how much room remains for political communication to migrate toward digital channels. It does not mean political spending will automatically reach the commercial percentage.
At least $1.9 billion was spent on online political advertising during the 2024 election across Meta, Google, Snap and X, according to analysis by the Brennan Center for Justice, OpenSecrets and the Wesleyan Media Project. The researchers described this as an underestimate, because it does not capture every platform.
Receipts reported by the federal committee of the North Carolina Democratic Party, January 1, 2025 through May 31, 2026.
Disbursements reported during that same period.
This is one committee and one example. BlackVoters.ai will track Democratic, Republican and independent political spending wherever reliable public records are available. Candidate committees, party committees, PACs, super PACs, independent expenditures, nonprofits, advocacy organizations and commercial vendors are distinct categories and are never combined into a single number.
CTV and streaming absorb budget previously reserved for broadcast. Voter-file and modeling vendors expand. Year-round SMS and email programs become standard rather than seasonal.
Historical numbers are facts. 2027 and 2028 numbers are scenarios derived from previous spending, current spending and observable technology trends. These are BlackVoters.ai projections, not reported spending, and never confirmed budgets. BlackVoters.ai projections use historical election spending, current-cycle spending, advertising-market trends, voter participation and technology adoption to estimate possible future scenarios. Projections aren't guarantees.
